Hugin, Munin, and now Sleipnir.

The story

In Norse mythology Hugin and Munin are Odin's ravens. They fly over the world and report back what they see. The Danish Home Guard's new surveillance aircraft do much the same, over a great deal of water.

The contract. In April 2023 the Danish Ministry of Defence awarded Zimex an eight-year lease for two DHC-6-300 Twin Otters, equipped for maritime surveillance.

The build. Both aircraft were modified in our hangar at Altenrhein. Airborne Technologies, of Wiener Neustadt, supplied the Airborne LINX surveillance system, a suite of sensors with an operator workstation in the cabin. We integrated it, certified it and delivered the aircraft.

The first year. About 1,000 flight hours and 150 missions for the police, defence, the EU border agency Frontex, and NATO's Baltic Sentry operation.

What's next. In September 2026 a third aircraft was announced, named Sleipnir after Odin's eight-legged horse. It'll fly with Squadron 270 from Roskilde and Aalborg.
